Committee on Natural Resources and Environmental Karelian Parliament supported the proposal to establish a Muezersky area of specially protected natural territories "Vottovaara.



The same name mountain, often called Vottovara - the highest point of the West Karelian Hills: 417,2 meters. Its popularity among tourists is increasing every year. This season the mountain was visited by more than 2,5 thousand people.



Vottovara located in the south Muezersky district in the western part of central Karelia, along the border with Finland. At the top of the hill is more than 1000 stones arranged in an unusual way. A number of large multi-ton stones placed on the "legs": a few smaller stones. Such stones are called "seids" and refers to the sacred sites of the Nordic peoples, in particular the Saami.
